You only get out what you put in

Nutri-grain, to anyone over the age of about 14, is basically sickening stuff.  They did well with their marketing adage though, 'You only get out what you put in.'  Rather than than a mix of pulverised cereal and refined sugar however, let's talk about effort and attitude in training.

Skills and fitness are easy to get.  We all have potential and we can reach it by training enough in the right ways. Easy. Done. Why say more?  Because training in the right ways is difficult, and in a team sport we need everyone around us to put in as much effort as we do.  Skills and fitness are easy to get, effort is not.

Training is really important, not because of the beers you have afterward, but because you play the way you train.  If you don't lay out in training, how will you lay out in a game?  if you taper off as your opponent scores in front of you because it's only training, how wil lyou stick with them in a game?  Your muscles remember what to do, and recall it quicker than your brain does.  To be the best player you can be, you need to give your muscles the right memories, and those are ones of maximal effort when it counts.

Training as a team in a team sport allows for cohesion to form, and training with effort helps that.  Not only does a layout pump you up, it pumps up everyone on your team.  If that happens in training, it transfers to games.  So next time you go out to train, remember to put in maximal effort. Your team deserves nothing less from you.

Eastbay order

With the local leagues coming to an end soon the HUC are just in the process of putting an Eastbay frisbee cleat order together. Firstly if you already know you're interested in this deal from the title - Go straight to the comments and let us know.

Secondly - I assume if you are still reading this post you therefore probably do not know what we're talking about here... so let me explain what an Eastbay order actually is. Eastbay is an online store for all things sporting shoes from America. Eastbay is the Ultimate players friend. Moreover it is the Australian ultimate players friend. Why??? Well right now its great value...  Also if you think about the shoes you buy in the Australian sports shops, they have to also cater for all those football games out there. This means that the boot itself needs to be able to last through endless kicking which means they are heavier. But You play ULTIMATE. When do you ever kick in YOUR cleats?!?! So why carry the whole weight of these heavy boots? Heres the solution. Buy a pair of new cleats for the new season, and free your feet!

OK so now YOU'RE sold on why I should buy Eastbay cleats.
Lets have a look at what to actually get. We'll go through a few different styles that we recommend:

The Nike Zoom Vapor Carbon Fly TD

The Nike Super Speed TD
 The Under Armour Nitro iii
And if you're after a very light (or something a bit out there)

The Nike Mercurial
OK so they are some of my suggestions from a quick look around the site. But if you're the type to do your own research you can have a look here
Click on the shoes drop down button and click on the football link

So make your choice, let us know in the comments and lets get into the new league seasons in style

Tuesday Training Option

On Tuesday night I was sitting around at home, watching some TV and generally not knowing what to do with my time. The Mrs was at home "studying" aka watching the movie Tangled which I hear is actually quite good. I thought to myself... What is better than 6:30 with George Negus? Apart from just about everything, I also thought it would be a good idea to go along to May/Molly/Stu's Tuesday night training session at Oakman Park.

The sessions are primarily aimed at maintaining frisbee skills and fitness during the break between Open and Mixed seasons. We started with a warm-up, 10 minutes of focussed throwing, and a number of kill drill variations. We then worked on a breaking the mark throwing drill before playing a fairly even match. There was quite a good turnout on a cool night with a number of the black betty girls as well as a few of Brisbane's journeyman mens fris players.

If you want to come next week, cost will be ~$5 per session you attend. Time is 7-9pm. Venue: Oakman Park. Chance to play and train with a nice group of skilled players: priceless. Bring your cleats, a white and dark shirt, disc, drink bottle.
