Heroes Victorious Over Dojo

The men in green gave the kenshi a schooling last night, forcing the old fuddy duddies at Dojo to set up the porta-field, for the first time in BPL history. The move came at 7:30, when Jangles taunted "Are you guys going to set up the field?".

Sensei or Coops... I dunno, they all look the same to me (except Daz), retorted "We're just gonna set up cones, do you mind?"

I could see this coming, and contributed from downfield "Yeah, we do mind!" - it is doubtful whether this comment fell on any ears at all, let alone the aging auricles of our foe.

Another voice, probably Fatty, chipped in "No one wants to hang around after the game to pack the bastard down".

But our fearsome leader held strong, stating firmly "We have some young guys who probably won't go to uni in the morning, they don't mind".

In the end, expert Carl had to explain how to roll out the cumbersome lines, as Dojo were caught with their pants down, never expecting this outcome.

The game started at around 7:55pm.

Post-match, during the circle of light-hearted banter, Cola mentioned that he suspected he would read a report in the morning. Let me say this "Allan Scott - You were WRONG!" It's now well into the PM.

How to be Bad-Ass in the 80's

With the return of beautiful, sunny weather, the Incredible HUC has taken a holiday this week, and hit the GC. In between Slammin' Waves & Slammin' Babes (embracing Slam Town culture), The HUC went on a massive bender and ended up busting into the archives of the SlamTown Flatball Club. We hope you enjoy what we've found.



This video was obviously on loan from purveyors of 80's culture, the one and only Dojo. Whilst The HUC only had to sleep with someone to gain access to the SFC volt, the mission of entering the inner sanctum of the Dojo Gardens was put on hold, while HUC soberly considers the best method of beating the Kenshi's high security measures.

Dojo Vs Heroes

On a pleasant enough night the second round of the BPL season saw a DojoMojo field a TEAM! Heroes was represented by almost the full roster which was very good to see. We welcomed Adam and Juan for their first games of the season (two rather nice finds over the break). Heroes took the line on O and was immediately faced with a zone. The first point was a 5 possession monster with both teams having chances to score. We showed true patience with the disc and eventually scored with a nice swing, pop, floaty up the line score from Gav to Bev. 1-0. Dojo took the disc on O and scored fairly quickly 1-1. If my memory serves correct Dojo broke to go 2-1, then we score 2-2.
The middle part of this game was very close but stupid errors from each side kept the other in it (if that makes sense). SteveC dropped I dunno how many grabs... esp. in the endzone. The shining light for Heroes was Bevan. Memorable moments was a great 50-50 contest in the endzone, the Disc got bunted up and it was floating away, but then Bev gathers himself and lays out to score a great bid. Bev definitely got the max 3 mvp points for the game.
I don't know what else to say about the match. We played a lot better than we did last week against UQ, but we are still making terrible errors in our own half which was disappointing. This second season appears to be a building season for us, if last was a 'experience taster'. This season is the time for us to build on the last and get ourselves up to the true BPL standard. I think we can play there for about 60-70% of the game at the moment. Our challenge is to take that to the full 100% and start to pull some wins out. Anyways that’s getting into the philosophy of our game so back to the point - the final score of this game was 8-15 to Dojo.

Bout time for an update

I've been a-thinkin... it's a bloody good thing that we chumped those Cobras back in Round 3. I'm sure this is a widely held view within the BPL community.

But for us, it means that we can go out against any team thinking "we may not be expected to win, but we're gonna have a crack". I'm sure there are a few more victories for us just around the corner.

Tonight's match against the Dojo was a measuring stick to our improvement. They played their same old game, making things look easy, with hammers, long hucks and great arial grabs. I can only recall one unforced error (of the fumble variety). They played their zone all night, which is something we now play well against. The final score was 15-8, but I think we had a solid performance.

Point's were more or less traded until 3-3, when Dojo took a time out. It was obvious that they needed to turn up the intensity, otherwise we'd stay right with them. A combination of errors on our part and being burnt long saw the score balloon out to 7-3, followed by a Heroes time out, Half Time at 8-3 and a Dojo time out at 9-3, due to our defence really tightening up.

Myall was all over the park tonight with his usual massive grabs. He must have scored 5 points, but was also pivotal in moving this disc through the cup. Once that was achieved, we were able to run, with Dojo unconcerned about our long play. The final score was 15-8.

We were solid as a team tonight, and are really cutting down on unforced errors and drops near our end zone. Tom's threw some beautiful hammers that he had been practicing, often to Gav. We are starting to back ourselves, our style of play and ability. In the past few weeks, there has been an exciting passage of the game where Heroes really tightens on D. After this, the points usually flow. When all these things come together...

BPL - A view from beneath

Well the first half of the season is down, and the Heroes have had a taste of each team. As this team is unknown to the BPL community, we see things a little differently. The following rankings are based on our experiences and other reports and results will be considered sparingly.

1. (2) Dojo - The rupturing of our metaphorical hymen was always going to be a messy, unforgettable and potentially traumatic experience. The Dojo were relentless, but had a "business-as-usual" approach. No hype was necessary. They executed their game-plan with indifference. While we will have a truck-load more confidence next time around, this welcome is hard to forget.

2. (5) SFC - Slamtown flattened our balls with a steam-roller. In contrast to the Dojo, they were all hype and high spirits. Their speed and athleticism was most impressive - the whirlwind oftentimes leaving us bewildered. To see them slip down so far on the ladder is surprising. Perhaps it shows that enthusiasm only gets you so far.

3. (6) Lovers - This is where things get ambiguous and confusing. The Lovers had no passion at all in the first half of our match. They had the countenance of a cancer patient begging to be put out of his misery. Out of nowhere, fearless leader Al Don created an ambush, and we were left helpless. They take #3 purely by the potential that was displayed.

4. (3) MBB - In reality, these guys will finish higher than SFC and Lovers. They play predictable, text-book ultimate, and they challenge you to beat them at it. Very patient and machine-like, with the ability to win most contested disc.

5. (1) Passion - This is most controversial. I was absent from our brawl, and it has been reported that Passion started poorly and then switched on the fist of fury to take the victory. This is not how we see it. Heroes claim that they stuck it to Passion before letting them back into the game. It was probably a mixture of both.

6. (4) Cobras - Early in the season, the Cobra's seemed like a group of athletic young men with bad attitudes. Their strats did not come off and they lacked discipline. They licked more than their wounds for over a week after losing to the Smackable Heroes.

7. (7) Heroes - Our performance? We are really pleased with how we are coming together as a team. Predicted as 15-3 easy-beats week in week out, we forced our critics to take us seriously with a win in game 2. We showed the UQ boys that they couldn't adopt their usual attitude toward us if they wanted to win and we fought hard against the Buggers. Low-lights include the SlamTown loss and the loss to Lovers after being up 8-2.
