Discheads battle it out over the arch-nemesis

For many it would seem a lifetime ago since last Monday evening as Dyspnoeics fought out the d2 BUML title against HUCs own Discheads. The blog talk was a buzz (not this buzz) and many thought the game would be a landslide if the BUB tipping was to be trusted but with the Dyspnoeics fielding a very strong line with the likes of coops, jimmy, anna and suz to name a few, DHs were going to have an up hill battle.On top of that Bev was dealing with the old shin splints and two girls (lisa and sarah) out due to injury. But nothing could wreck the DHs spirit. In fact craig left home at 5.45pm to get to the field to be sure to be warmed up and ready to go. Well done son.
I wont try and amuse readers with a score trail but I will highlight some great passages of play that I remember from the side line. One of those was a score from craig where he was playing long against a zone made a good hard long cut, then doubled back under losing his mark and received the disc. He dishie dumped and sprinted long to the end zone to take a great huck thrown around the cup to score. That was a great passage of play. Bev should also be commended with his handling all night and esp his D pressure was outstanding. I saw a horizontal Bevan layoutD to block a scoring pass, with that the DHs lifted and extended their lead to be too far in front of Dysnoeics. Last possession was called and the dark blues easily controlled the disc to score, but too little to late. The game was Discheads. This capped off a stella season and congratulations to all DHs players.

Orange and Blue Vs Green

I was once given a sound bit of advice, "When work gets busy and you cant keep up, just delegate. And then you'll never do any work ever again". So in that frame of mind, I hand it over to Laura to finish the rest of this post.
On Monday we played against Dyspnoeics and we got off to a slower start than we would have liked. We started on offensive and recieved the pull only to turn it over around halfway, then letting them score didnt help our cause. We managed to get back into the game and traded basically the entire game. In the end we were able get out to a handy 3 point lead with about 10mins to go. Unfortunately we let them score. So then last possesion was called on their pull and Sean made a funny play saying everyone long. So I immediately run up field and I saw Carl with the disc I keep sprinting to the endzone. But the disc never came, He swang it back to Sean. Then I don't know what happened after that, but somehow we dropped it and game over. Final score was 11-9 (carl thinks...)

Great game after Dyspnoeics had beaten us once before and we'd previously beaten them. We had lots of fun and it was great getting some Ds.

re-match

the closely fought traditions of both the heroes club and the Dyspnoeics club was again exploited to give a rather close win to Heroes. With the windy conditions last night wreaking havoc early on the green side of things the first point took ages. By memory I think both sides dropped a total of 3 endzone catches before the first score was finally caught by LauraDhampel in the endzone with the assist made by Carl to make it a sweet behrendorff-point to get started (we call it a BP). The rest of the game played out in the same fashion, although both teams did manage to adjust to the wind quite well it must be said. Heroes got a few break ups early and stretched our lead out to 6-3.
Time out was called as a sudo half time and both teams certainly enjoyed a bit of a longer timeout break than normal. Our super hero intelligence spies reported that Dyspnoeics abstractly utilized some water bottles and constructed the blue prints of a zone play, unfortunately the secret spies mission ran late and we only got the info when we took O next point. Their well constructed cup crashed our O and they were able to draw some errors in our play (this is something we need to work on in future weeks). So the cup and the wind lead to some stone cold drops and throw aways. Dyspnoeics scored the next point, last possession was then called during the next point and all of a sudden the game finished 6-5 to Heroes.
Big shout out to Sean, Mikey and Tomsteve for good handling considering the conditions plus having very sore legs from Halibut.

So savage, so close

Before we get into last nights wrap up, lets have a look and reflect at what a cool thing the callahan is




Tomsteve last night was involved in one of the rarer aspects to the ultimate game. Unfortunately he was the handler who gave it to Mansauce, literally. Tomsteve tried this outstretched lunge of a backhand fake and on his way back up decided to throw it anyways and threw it straight into the arms of mansauce. It was a little bit funny but it actually gave Dyspnoeics a brake up, after we managed to claw it back.

Jumping back to the start of the game, Heroes started out savage and had to play most of the night with no girl subs and eventually 1 boy sub. The opposition seemed to jump out of the blocks and score the early exchanges to be 2-0, maybe even 3-0. Dyspnoeics arrived early and did their warm up drills which seemed to work well for them, something which we need to address in the Heroes div2 side.
With some eventual warmer hands we brought it  back with some well good zone action and managed to get some break backs to take the game to 8-9. Then the callahan happened. 8-10. both teams went on to score one extra point each and the game finished at 11-9 heroes losing, what we probably should have won. With a full strength roster and players turning up on time I thought we might have come away with a win, but a very enjoyed game was played anyways.

Discheads uncover the winning formula!

Last nights Discheads played against the formidable Dyspnoeics side and came away from the game victorious. We welcomed back Josh and he was back to top form with silky handling skills and some great defense. The whole team put in a solid effort and were rewarded for their troubles with a 12-7 win.

This victory gives us a point of reference now to continue to improve throughout the rest of the season. Hopefully I'll have more good news to post in the coming weeks!

"It's worse than kissing you sister"

As the made famous by the Mighty Ducks quote, a draw is obviously worse than kissing your own sister. But last night nonetheless Heroes snuck in one last point to take the win away from Dyspnoeics and leveled the game at 8 all. Its a big call but I think the lights coming on very late cost the win for the Heroes... (What? fight me..)

Both teams played very evenly and the scoring remained somewhat close throughout the match. Dyspnoeics pulled to lead by as much as 3 drawing to the end of the game with a fast flurry of fantastically fluid scores. But the Heroes stood tall and got the game back to by within one at the last point. The game was definitely Dyspnoeics to win but as the old saying goes, Last point wins (Right...?) and Heroes probably came away glad to get the draw result in the end.

The match was played savage by the Dyspnoeic women and the men only had one sub up their sleeves but still ran hard all for most of the game. Maybe it was the lack of run at the death that allowed Heroes to get the draw. The late lights coming on probably cost the eventual win to the Heroes and I would say we could have won it easily with just 5 extra minutes. Memorable moments of the game? Hmmm not sure, add a comment if your itching to tell us... Will give a mention to Dave with some nice long D's that saved points - well done Dave for keeping us in the game!

Regrettably I rolled my ankle at the start of the last point and so today I took work off to ice and recover. Isn't it nice working from home? So I join the injured list of Mikey and now me. Next week both players should be back to full fitness.
