I"m hoping that Baker or Sauce will see this and fill us in.
Dyspnoeics have been around longer than the Heroes, with the team forming
in S1 2006. I know this because Bevan and I played a few games with them
before I went on a hiatus, returning to the formation of Huddy's Heroes in the Summer of 2007.
My vague memory tells me that it was based around the likes of Andy Lankowski, that other Andy and Latitia (or was that a different team), Dan Blacklock?? I'm just guessing here. I remember another McNaughton being involved, don't remember who that would have been. We were pretty hit and miss in that season..
So come on, someone give us some history on Dyspnoeics. They deserve the spotlight. Have they ever won a BUML/YUFL premiership? Who are they? Where do they come from? When did Sauce and Baker join?
I'll leave it to Coops or Sauce to throw in some facts/history, since they've been around longer.
ReplyDeleteWhen I joined 2.9 seasons ago, there was three Andys, and they'd won a few titles. There was a Div 1 team (which I'm secretly hoping will rear its head again in the future).
Last season saw a brief exodus of many of our top players (Coops and Suz, Jimmy and Bec, Andy and Latitia). Last season was definitely a building one, which saw all new players except for 3 (Sauce, Rachel and I). But most of the new players from last year have stuck with us this year, and a few oldies have returned to the fold. Our team feels solid, but not flashy.
Our unofficial moto at the moment is 'calm; controlled; adam no hammers'. We'll...thats my interpretation at least.

Dont forget Suzanne Lankowski (nee Facy as it was way back when). Rena - a favourite daughter of SEQ Ultimate, Old Man Tony 9his kid might of even ran with the team once or twice), yes Blacklock was there, Meg Booth. I think we won the very first league held at Yeronga when there was only a single division (in our inaugural year). Since we have won the 1st Div a few seasons back.

Continuing on from my esteemed colleagues above, I can say that when i joined - Season 1 2008 - the core was Andy Mc, Letitia (sp), Coops, Suze, Tony, Jimmy, Sarah and Dan Blacklock. Tho Dan left to create Poachers soon after.

The inaugral (fairly sure it was the first split comp) Div 2 championship - undefeated seaon.
The following season we won Div 1 - coming back from 5 points down to win the final 13-12 or 14-13. Myself, Coops, Jimmy and Suze were part of that team.
Looking at the teams for tonight it's going to be an interesting match up. The one thing Dyspnoeics lack is height, which is something Discheads have plenty of. Dyspnoeics will look to punch holes through the middle of the D, using their speed & reliable throwing to counter the height issue. Expect late season recruits Jimmy and Bec to have a major impact on the game. Honey pass anyone?
