BigSky10s

I would write up an inspirational message about the BigSky10s tournament but then I went around the blogs and I found that Stefan did a pretty good job at it here, be sure to have a read its good stuff.

Having said that Heroes had a great time playing on the day, only coming away with one win but more so being glad to chip in for a good cause. Our first two matches were against the 1st and 3rd seeded teams, and coming up against us the 7th seeds, both Staceys all stars and SFC must have been nervous. But good ultimate prevailed and Heroes just didnt click in our early exchanges. Slamtown being us 10 nip and SAS conceded a "brown biscuit" (I dunno, they called it something lame) winning 10-1.

Heroes next clashed with Starlight, a team made up of completely new players, there to simply support Stacey. They were obviously there to have a good time, and we showed them some good will be giving them two chances with turnovers on each and every possession. Final score 10-5 Heroes.

Lastly the Heroes wrapped up the BigSky10s with a great and hard fought final pool match against Walrus and the Carpenter. On paper this match looked pretty even. On the field W&C got to an early lead. Heroes rallied and scored the next couple. The game plan was simple - control the disc, use safe options. We did that and after drawing the momentum back from WC, Heroes came back on a charge. The second last point MUST be mentioned. I think each team had about 5 possessions - it was epic. The girls were playing a tough cup forcing the turnovers each time, but it was a shot in the foot at times with then having no legs on O to complete the score. Eventually we did score it and it felt great. Final score was 9-7.

The final was played in front of the grandstand pub seating and it was Heroes who lead the charge at the bar. This was the key factor to the great atmosphere created with cheering and geeing up on the Pulls. It was fun for us and I hope the players in the final liked it too. Mike stepped up and took some fantastic Bigskies and in the end closed the game out with a nice layout bid to score - great work.
Apparently the day raised $15,000!!! Great work to the TD's and everyone involved.
