Its been a while

So after Easter and what's seemed to be ages since we've played a game, last night saw Heroes able to get together to challenge a div 1 side (Mongo). Unfortunately they never received the memo. So having a bye, the Heroes BUML div 2 squad all turned up expecting to play. What we actually got was a really fun game of pick up/training/awesomeness. With the squad (and i say squad considering the 16 people who turned up) forming two teams and fighting out a bit of a grudge.
My highlight was getting a diving block D out on Dave - who is twice my height!
Other movers and shakers have been the new recruit in Grant. Showing great glimpses of offensive aggression and masterful awareness on D to get many interceptions. The game was played in the usual Heroes spirit that we're know for and I would say most people were fairly happy to just get out their and have a run. Score's i don't think were counted but it was definitely even at the end we'll say 8 all.

On that topic there was a bit of discussion on the appropriateness of a div 2 side playing a div 1 side and what that meant for the game. Some of our players expressed concern about having to play "above our weight division'' and were scared of the demoralization that would only incur. Therefore because this was a bye round and BUML is about developing the skills of players in Brisbane; the suggestion of changing the bye-round game to a pick up match, evenly populated by the div 1 and 2 players based on skill and fitness might make for a better format. Therefore as the spirit of the league might suggest, the D1 players could mix with the D2 and foster better Brisbane connections. Thoughts? Issues? Post away...

  1. A mixed game sounds great, but first you need to have the Div 1 team show up!!!!

Way to go Heroes to have such a turnout for a bye when it wasn't even at the usual game time. I saw you guys battling it out amongst yourselves from my Div 1 game and was proud of you and ashamed of the Div 1 players who blew you/us off!!!

  2. Agreed!
It was still cool to have a squad game - and also to have those 2 random guys pick up (even if it was hard to tell them apart...)
