Disc Golf

So since probably a year ago I've been interested in disc golf and how cool it is. It takes a lot of control and throw skill to pull off a great shot on the course. But where in Brisbane do you go for a round of frisbee golf?
The Australian Disc Golf Association states that there are only two courses for us to play on - John Bray Park and one in Noosa. I also know of one in Yeronga next to the YUFL playing fields.

The theme I'm getting out of this is that to play Disc Golf in the Western suburbs means traveling ages just to get a golf fix. Therefore I propose that few of us get together and find a great park to play in. In my search I've located Azanc Park in Toowong which I think would be great. Get onto to google maps and check out its potential!!!

Comment and lets maybe get the council to put a course in!

  3. There's 2 basic ways to play disc golf:
    1. object - usually played by ulti players, with ultrastars + objects (trees rubbish bins etc) as targets
    2. basket - usually played with golf discs (drivers, putters, etc) + wire baskets on poles
    3. hybrid - you can of course play either with any discs; whatever you enjoy

There are 4 permanent basket courses around Brisbane - check out the details on disc golf at www.quda.org, or www.australiandiscgolf.com - Yeronga, Bray Park, Loganholme, Logan City.
There is a regular round played at Yeronga at 3pm on Sundays, starting at the carpark on Hyde Road opposite Manson Pde. Bruce and Tim have loaner discs to try it out, or you can buy new ones.

There is likewise a number of object courses around - incl Anzac Park - but these are harder to identify, and you need someone 'in the know' to take you around... OR, you can make up your own anywhere...
The Anzac Park course(s) continue to morph as Council maintains the park, and some holes are really no longer playable because of proximity to other park users. There's a window this coming Saturday afternoon if you're interested - email me (discgolf@quda.org).

Back to baskets - there's upcoming tournaments to be held at Yeronga, incl the Qld Open, which is part of the national tour. Keep an eye on ADG site for other details, or join the email group. We'll try to keep ulti players informed as well.

Whatever disc golf you play, rule number one is to give way to other park users - never throw if there's a risk someone can get hit.
