Slamtown ride a close wave

Heroes started the night on O and leapt away to a 1-0 lead with great, thought-out and clean offensive. The second point lasted a rather long time with Slamtown throwing the disc away on more than one occasion, Heroes however let them off the hook twice as well with albeit, close throw aways into the endzone. ST rallied and fought back to get on the board in the end to make the score 1-1. Heroes were all about intensity and certainly on D was where it showed up. Unfortunately our intensity also carried over into O where we just wanted to make the glory pass/assist. The two teams traded until 4-4.
The intensity that we lacked in previous weeks had begun to take its toll on the boys and somehow we let ST score the next 4 points. That really hurt. Slamtown took the half at 8-4.
The Heroes leadership group asked the team to lift over half time. What we saw was the whole team rise and we racked up some blocks on D. Then we saw MattB layout in the endzone! It was freckin sweet, and we got a little celebration out of him too.
The Heroes from last season would have shut down and see the game slip away after half to something like 15-6. What we did was win the half 5-4 and the game ended at 9-12 to Slamtown. The 3 point difference was probably not reflective of how close the game was in my opinion. And also was that the first time a Heroes game ended last on a Thursday night? Id probably bet it is.
Heroes are learning what it takes to win (again) in this league. We're getting a taste of the hard run we have to show and the commitment on D we need. More than that, we are enjoying the rise in our effort.

  1. Great game from everyone - I think if this had have gone to points cap we would have had a very interesting result.

  4. it's disgraceful that Bevan wasn't mentioned here :P. If he didn't play they would have scored about 8 more times, that's how many D's he got, usually layouts. He also scored a lot of points.

It was great to see Juan in action, Adam was our mainstay handler and Jamie made some great cuts under. Good control for the most part, we just gotta remember to dump it off the line and have patience in the end zone.
