Wonder Women v Nachos United

Okay, I have been informed that as a heroes captain there are “certain duties” that I have to carry out, including a match report.

Heroes first ever women’s team, Wonder Women had their first ever game last night. The Wonder Women demonstrated their superhuman strength, super-speed, super-stamina, and super-agility with some great play on the field. Here is a run down that I remember:

Points 1-3
…… not too sure what happened during these points, as after dropping Adam off at BPL, I arrived in time for point 4. Luckily Sandra Poon, our amazing poached recruit was there to fill in for me until I arrived.

However, the score was 2-1 our way when I took to the field so I gather there was some quality play from the Wonder Women.

Points 4-10
Nachos strode ahead at this point in the game, with some awesome short and long plays which involved most of their players.

Score at the end of point 10: 7-3 to Nachos

It was about this point that we had a timeout, and were trying to figure out an action to go with out cheer, but we couldn’t quite think of a way to do the action for a lasso without looking like strippers, so we put that idea on hold for a while.

Points 10-17
The game got very interesting from this point on, with the teams almost matching point for point. The male heroes could have learnt a thing or two from one of our awesome points where a play was called on the line (handler swing to primary cut to secondary cut) and it came off perfectly for a score with some amazing flow down the field. Lesson: Playing the position and play called on the line + paying attention to timing makes for some pretty looking ultimate.

There were a few long hucks from myself and Sandra, with both of us admitting to being slightly huck-happy with end-zone eyes. However, I believed we scored at least 2 points, possibly 3 from these throws.

End score: 10-7 to Nachos.

MVP points!!

Okay, for this game seeing as we haven’t discussed this yet, I am going to make an executive decision about MVP points for the players, we will discuss this next week and come up with a proper system.

There was awesome play from everyone on the field, from Jo’s catches of some pretty swilly throws, to Bri continuously providing options and Alana’s stack master skills and long options but the points for this week will be awarded as follows:

3 points: Sarah for her long cuts and scores in the end zone

2 points: Sandra for her layout to save a terrible pass by me which should have been just a simple 5 metre pass.

1 point: Vanessa for some awesome handling points!

Honourable mention goes to Morag, who played her first ever game of ultimate last night.

I am really proud of our effort last night (especially considering that it was the first time we had ever played together) and can’t wait for some more Wonder Women action!
