I know some people have been eagerly awaiting news from the Heroes AGM, and I've been too busy until now to put a report up here. So for those of you who haven't heard through the grapevine here's what went down:
-The meeting started 15 mins late (on time/early running by 'Frisbee Time') after bulk pint and chips orders were placed. Eighteen people were present with healthy representation from all 6 teams.
-Dan gave us the entertaining, based-on-a-true-story mythology of the origins of the Heroes. It was well written and well delivered. Some laughed. Some cried. All raised their glasses.
-Huddy's vision of playing WUCC 2014 was discussed and embraced by those who are keen to go as well as those who aren't. This will be one of many goals the Heroes club will now start to work towards.
-A mission statement was decided on: To play, promote and develop fun, skilled and spirited Ultimate.
-Although we couldn't agree on what a member is and how much it will cost, the vote to incorporate was unanimous. A second meeting to discuss rule changes, objectives, finances and membership was agreed upon for Sunday 7 November. So put it in your diary now if you are interested in this. Time and Venue TBC but it will likely be 1-2 hours before Sunday training and at the same location.
-In order to communicate the rules and objectives of the club to everyone who plays on a Heroes team, as well as to uphold the high level of spirit for which we like to strive, the development of a Spirit Agreement was supported.
-Finally roles were discussed and positions voted in. Congratulations to:
CHAIR: Laura Sonter
PRESIDENT: Gavin Croft
VICE PRESIDENT: James Morrell
TREASURER: Craig Behrendorff
SECRETARY: Meagan Bulley
ELITE LEVEL OFFICER: Daniel Strelan
TRAINING OFFICER: Sebastian Brown
TECHNICAL OFFICER: Sean Mailander
PARTY LIASON OFFICER: Chris Brown
TOURNAMENT LIASON OFFICER: Carl Behrendorff
HEROES TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS: Carl Behrendorff and James Morrell
MEMBERS OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE: Laura Sonter, Gavin Croft, James Morrell, Craig Behrendorff, Meagan Bulley, Daniel Strelan, Sebastian Brown, Sean Mailander, Jo Ashdown and Bevan Rudolph
-Meeting finished at 7.15 (exactly 2 hours after we started). Another dozen or so people showed up for dinner and drinks including Carl who misread the start time for the AGM to be 7. What a goose! For the hours that followed all anyone wanted to talk about was Frisbee. It was a glorious atmosphere of energy and ideas (which I hope people have written down, so as not to be forgotten with the 5th and 6th pints). Being that no-one else prepared a joke but me, I won the Brew HaHa by default and rewarded myself with the 'free' jug. Boy was it delicious!
