Wonder Women V Titanium Nachos

With Wonder Women Captain, Robyn, away in Adelaide, Sandra and Suze took the leadership roles in our second match against Titanium Nachos. Titanium Nachos played a hard game throughout, not letting up at all, turned up a few notches from the first time we played them. Facing a stacked team of strong players we were spooked initially with the TN ladies scoring some fast points in the first half, hucking long into the end zone and passing the disc quickly. After some motivating words from Sandra, Alana played hard and smart, went long and took a huck from Sandra decisively in the end zone amidst some tough D. At the end of the first half the score was 1: 8.

We found our footing after half time and stepped up our game. Both teams mixed up the defence between zone and man, with the points getting longer and more turn overs. On O, WW had some good flow with the disc and some hard cuts with good use of space by members of the team. Vanessa, Sarah, Suze and Sandra showed some excellent handling skills. Our strength as a team continues to be in defence, with some tight marking on man, and keeping up the cup in zone. There were some fantastic Ds by Celine (only her 2nd game!) and myself with sound effects (which may have actually been lucky timing, and an expression of pain as it hit my arm full force!) Towards the end WW mixed it up with some organic plays which seemed to work for some, but not all; after switching it back to more set positions we scored our fourth point. Special mention to Carly, our newest player, who showed some excellent positioning in the end zone and assisted with a point score.

Overall it was a good game from both teams, Nachos played a hard game but this meant we stepped up to play against them and learnt from their skilled plays. Final score was somewhere between Wonder Women 4 or 5, Titanium Nachos 14 or 15

Nice work TN, looking forward to playing again

MVP Points:

3 to Alana for excellent take in the end zone to score our first point.

2 to temporary recruit Celene for super cuts and several Ds on the other team

1 to Suze for good movement of the disc at the back

  1. Definitely some fabulous defensive work from the Wonder Women, and I'm glad you came back with some great offense in the second half when you got over the intimidation factor of our rather strong Nachos lineup. You can't let that get into your heads! All of you have the skills, you might not get open every time but keep making the hard cuts and mixing them up and often it will work. We certainly knew you could score on us at any time, that's why we focussed and played hard every point.

Keep up the great spirit, it's always a pleasure to play with you, on either side of the field!
