Wonder Women v Missfire

Well, I have been a bit slack about writing these summaries sorry.

On Thursday WW took on Missfire. As it is now Saturday, most of the game has been erased from my memory, but I do remember that it was a really fun, competitive game to play!

Sandra Poon and I are very huck happy, and luckily for us, Wonder Women are very good at reading the disc and catching some dodgy floaty throws (well, at least lucky for me, Sandra's hucks are kind of amazing). This lead to several point scoring connections which were awesome to see (and the BPL team spectators seemed to enjoy seeing long plays in women's ultimate too). One of my favourites was seeing Jo free in the endzone, but then for some reason I waited until she was being marked by two players to throw it to her. Jo kept her cool, read the disc perfectly and took it down over the two opposing players!

We also tried two versions of a zone – a 3, 2, 1 zone and a 2, 3, 1 zone. We found that the 2, 3, 1 zone worked better as Missfire were taking full advantage of the gaps in the middle with the 3, 2, 1 zone. You may notice this only adds up to 6. That is correct. We were playing 6 on 6 as Missfire were missing a bit of firepower this week.

Missfire also pulled out a zone on us after that, and for the first point they played it on us we floundered a bit, before sorting ourselves out and working the disc down effectively against it.

Anyway, the final score was, I think, 9-4 our way (although technically we had already won as Missfire had forfeited). With only one week left I am super proud of how much all the WW have improved and how well we are all playing together. There are no weak links on this team.

Oh, and did I mention that this game was a semi-final, meaning we are in the Grand Final next week?

So BPL boys, I wish you luck in your grand final..... oh wait ;)

MVP points:

3 points: Jo for her contested grab in the end zone

2 points: Alana for her contested grab in the end zone.

1 point: Sarah for her continually improving handler skills!

  1. Robyn's right. Our girls are better than our boys. We should field an all girls Div 1 team. We could also use a few women to help us get to worlds ;)
