Heroes Training on Heroes Avenue!

One sunny day, a young tradesman was loitering in the Taringa area, with little to do than scoff down cream buns, custard tarts and 1.5L Ice Breaks. While dicking around in the area, Gavin came across some lush parkland (grass, not wood) on one Heroes Avenue. It was destiny.

I had a drive over there just before, and there are at least two parks that we could use.

Today has little in common with that one sunny day. It's been raining for days and the wind is picking up. What better thing to do than stay indoors and watch movies, drink hot-chocolates, etc etc. That's exactly what could be thought during an important game on a Monday or Thursday. So that's why we are heading over to Heroes Av in Taringa (google it) at 3:30pm today (Sunday, ten-ten-ten).

So COME ON! You KNOW tomorrow is likely to be cancelled. Itching? I sure am. Gonna have a scratch at 3:30. Metaphorically. I'm talking about disc. And the desire to play. And the chance to have a throw and lay out a lot.

Hope I'm not the only one.

  1. Do the non-Brisbane Heores (ie, me) get to see a picture of this 'Heroes Avenue'?

  4. How'd it go?

The field (Jack Cook Park) is a Council sportsfield that is leased by Little Athletics. I think they mostly use it on Fridays and Saturdays, but let me know if you think it's worth inquiring further.

Also worth checking out nearby Perrin Park between Indooroopilly Rd and Josling St. This is a more proper public park and isn't leased to a sporting club (or bookable for sport). Council usually lets the grass grow longer, but its still quite suitable for Ultimate.

  5. JdR - the sign clearly states that it is called Jack COCK park ;)

Both these fields were lumpy and overgrown. The soft ground made timing of jumping very difficult. I'm not sure whether it would be worth while, I'd have to see it in dry weather and with mowed grass.

  6. That park is a death trap. as the guy who was vomiting blood and was subsequently removed by an ambulance will testify.
