Div 2 draw - please explain

Can someone tell me what's up with the Div 2 draw? There are allegedly two pools, but the leaderboard combines the two. Heroes are listed in the top pool, yet we are scheduled to play Baby Chimis, who are in the bottom pool. Heroes do not play against Agent Orange, who are in the lower pool. What happens come finals time?

  1. and just to add to that.
What is point of the pools anyways? Wasn't it brought in cause there was obviously a large talent/skill gap between the top teams and the bottom. Then as far as I can remember the pools were created. Correct me if Im wrong - i honestly cant remember.

But to vent my splean - whats the REAL point of the pools? If you have pools thats fine, but I want to play all the other teams in that pool. For instance Heroes D2 hasnt played Bermunda Triangle this season. Yet we've played Poachers and Dyspnoeics twice each. And in the new 2nd half of the season we're to play these teams again, but still no B.Tri... B.Tri have played DHs twice as well.
Is this a pool cross over? possibly because they're 13 teams in the d2 league.

As far as I can tell theres 3 pools. Let me explain. Theres the top pool (Exquisite etc) Then theres the bottom pool (KG Cougars, Go Gos etc) But then the way I see it, there are teams like BTri who play teams from both the top pool(exquisite) and the lower pool (GoGos). How does this work in a pool system, when other teams like Heroes dont even get to play them?? Is there a system that has identified some teams (like B.Tri) who will put a fight up to the top teams but at the same time not completely thrash the lower teams.
Are we simply protecting the newer teams/players? How do they feel about it? What is the system used to work out this draw? Id love to know

  2. Apparently Baby Chimi's are in the top pool, but I was confused because they appear towards the bottom of the ladder. Separate ladders would probably help

  3. Chris Fox sent out an email this afternoon about it. Pretty much Pool A has 7 teams, Pool B has 6. This means after 5 weeks Pool B has played everyone and Pool A has played all bar 1.

The first 4 weeks were grading matches and don't count in the actual season which is why some teams have already played others twice.

The top team in Pool B in weeks 5-9 was The Ghost Who Walks, and this team will be moved up to Pool A for the rest of the season. Conversley, Bermuda Triangle will be moved down to Pool B for the remainder of the season.

Because Pool A has an extra team there will be some cross-Pool games in the next 5 weeks so that Pool B teams will also have their Bye weeks. However, no team will have more than one cross-Pool game.

Last two paragraphs quoted from the email. There will also be some form of play-off's afterwards.

  5. Hey Carl, Very briefly:
The idea of putting people into pools arose when we thought there may not be a Div1 this season (at that time there were only 3 Div1 teams registered). John, Adilia and I decided that instead of having one big league we would divide teams into 2 or 3 pools so that teams would play the majority of their games against equal opponents.
When Div1 did form we decided to stay with this idea for Div2. We wanted to provide an opportunity for new teams of virtually all new players to be able to play games in Div2 without getting killed 15-1 by the more experienced teams, and thus we created a 'lower' pool in Div2.

The fact that there is only one leader board for Div2 is bad. But I have no control over the website and John did not initially have it set up for the Pool format. If we do it againt next season we will correct this. But don't worry. The final standings will be based only on the results of weeks 5-14's games (which I monitor) and the teams in Pool A will all be ranked higher than the teams in Pool B (because theoretically the top team in Pool B should still not be as good as the bottom team in Pool A).

Most of your other questions should be answered by my email that Brownie referred to.

If anyone ever has any questions or comments about how the league is run PLEASE ASK ME DIRECTLY. We need your feedback and I hate to think that people are grumbling about stuff without just asking me about it and giving me a chance to explain. Everything we do is for a reason, it just might not always be obvious of what it is.

  6. good explanation. We know everything is done for the leagues benefit. I think having the odd numbers makes this whole process more difficult. It was great to see the email which explained everything more clearly, perhaps a few weeks over due, but definitely glad to see it.

  7. Yeah, the email was overdue. We said at the start of the year what would happen after 4 games, but we forget to remind everyone again after the first 4 games actually happened.

  8. what do people think about the idea of making sure Pool A and Pool B have equal numbers? (ie. right now we have 7 in each Pool). Then we wouldn't have to have a bye (since most of the time the Div 1 and Div 2 teams don't bother to show up for a game).
